|rachel500||12:45 pm - Character Profile: Laura Cadman|
First appearance: S2 SGA Duet Last appearance: S2 SGA Critical Mass
Career: Laura Cadman has been assigned at times to the Atlantis expedition providing security detail for off-world teams. It was during an early off-world assignment that she ended up being temporarily transposed into Rodney McKay's body, sharing it for a time, thanks to a Wraith transporter beam (S2 SGA Duet).
An expert in explosives she helped to identify Colonel Caldwell (who was an unwilling host to a Goa’uld) as the perpetrator when Atlantis was threatened by a bomb (S2 SGA Critical Mass).
There is some canon confusion regarding Laura's military status. Props would indicate that she is Marine (S2 SGA Duet) but as Sheppard refers to her as one of his officers in dialogue, some have assumed she is Air Force (S2 SGA Critical Mass).
Family: There were pictures of Laura with her family in her quarters (S2 SGA Duet).
Female Friendships: Unknown.
Romantic Others: Laura enjoyed a brief relationship with Carson Beckett after kissing him while she was in Rodney McKay’s body (S2 Duet), and enjoyed several dates with him. The couple broke up before the Atlantis expedition were expelled by the returning Ancients (S3 The Return).
AU/Other Versions: n/a

Summary:Some things in Pegasus are very predictable; that’s probably why Laura’s not surprised when they all get thrown in jail (set post-Common Ground).
I was under the impression Cadman was a Marine not Air Force.
Yes, me too! But apparently not according to Gateworld and the Stargate wiki who both have her as a Lt in the Air Force. According to the behind-the-scenes extra personnel files on one of the DVDs she's named as a Lt there too.
Personally, I think they just got it wrong. If you have a closer look at her quarters in Duet, you can see no hint of being an Air Force officer but many, many hints towards Cadman being a Marine. Someone somewhere said she was Air Force and somehow it became canon because people are copying from each other (also, I don't believe any behind-the-scenes stuff saying she's Air Force because her quarters clearly say otherwise and it's not impossible for TPTB to be wrong about something... but pretty embarrassing *coughs).
I've edited the profile to reference the canon ambiguity.
From what I can make out a lot of the episode-canon confusion comes from the props in Duet (which clearly indicate Marine) versus dialogue in Critical Mass (which suggests Air Force).
The behind the scenes DVD extra possibly has added weight to the Air Force side of things but as you say even TPTB have known to get their canon wrong occassionally :)
